We understand it can be challenging to accept, but London isn’t merely a bustling mix of tall buildings, busy streets, and crowded tube trains. Surprisingly, a recent study on wellness has shown that our beloved cityscape of concrete is quite the opposite.
Yes, in an effort to uncover the top wellness destinations in the UK, outdoor enthusiasts at GO Outdoors conducted research, analysed data, and unveiled the most verdant areas in the country. And guess what? London actually performed rather well.
The study examined the regions with the highest tree coverage percentages in the UK, and London secured fourth place (joint fourth, to be precise) with an average tree coverage of 19%. Berkshire and Hampshire shared the top spot, offering ample access to natural and verdant spaces, while West Sussex, boasting a multitude of popular parks including a portion of the South Downs National Park, took second place. Greater London tied with three other regions—Oxfordshire, Surrey, and East Sussex.
London is teeming with stunning landscapes, lush green gardens, and picturesque parks, so this finding doesn’t come as a surprise. However, it’s reassuring to see it confirmed. Moreover, London was identified as the second-best wellness location in the entire UK. Not too shabby, right?
